We recommend that you do the following:

  • When you leave your home empty for short periods, leave the heating on at a normal setting.
  • When you leave your home empty for longer periods please try turning off your stop cock.
  • Insulating any exposed pipework.
  • Have you heating programmed to come on at intervils to keep your property warm.
  • In severe cold weather, try to keep your home warm, day and night.
  • Get someone to check your property and leave a key with someone.

If you get a frozen pipe:

  • Turn off the water at the stop valve.
  • Turn on all taps on sinks and baths.
  • If possible, collect water in the bath for flushing the toilet and washing.

Mains Stop Tap.
The following points will help you to reduce the risk of water damage to your home and possessions.

  • Stop taps are very important. They control the flow of water into your home. You need to make sure that you know where your stop tap is in your home.
  • This will help you if you have a leak.
  • Most stop taps are fitted in the bathroom or kitchen, for example below a kitchen sink.

We recommend that you turn off your water supply each year to test that your stop tap is in good working order. If you have any problems with your mains stop tap DeWAR would be delighted to help.
